Tension is rising in the the liberated forest of Lejuc, Bure: the blue team has opened the game – reinforcements needed!

Recently we published an emergency call-out concerning the situation of our fresh, small but active forest occupation standing against the nuclear monster Andra and its CIGEO plan. On 24th of november, our eviction threat got concrete. The environmental authority decided to free Andra from carrying out an environmental impact study, opening its way towards the final destruction permit.

That very morning the blue team opened the game.

After the é’th decision, they are attempting to penetrate their way into the forest by any possible means. Sometimes they use excuses like «replanting trees», or civilian cops coming for a walk with their «families» on Sunday afternoons. Today they paid us three consecutive visit at the entrance barricade between 6:30 and 8 AM. Finally, they even tried to take that barricade1 with a comical attempt to appear credible in our eyes. Obviously they are testing our reactions and trying to wear us down so they can plan how to come next.

As the blue team opened the game, come and play with us! We are urgently asking reinforcements to come. The first official squatter of the Lejuc woods, Sven Lindstrom, decided to do his bit in making eviction matters more difficult for Andra by changing his home address in to the woods and throwing a themed birthday party on 13.12. As the first party crashers have now rattled at the gates, we urge our friends to come bounce them out of the forest next time they show up.

« Come in, bring your own beer and plenty of friends!» Sven wishes to add.

While we are taking our stand against the destruction of the living planet in the name of short-term profit, other good people are taking their stand elsewhere. With love, rage and solidarity we wish to encourage those facing the full force of repression in Standing Rock, North Dakota – one struggle!

1 Luckily, we have many. All over the place. Defend them with us!

Emergency call-out from the Lejuc forest occupation

You know how these occupations often go: bad people start destroying the environment, good people intervene, and in the end the bad people get the papers to favour them and start the bulldozers once more. This is exactly what just happened in the woods of Lejuc, near the village of Bure in France. And that’s why we need you. To come. Here. And resist. Big time.

20161125_160205«Some people re-occupied this forest two months ago. To support them I decided to put myself on the line and officially squat the place. I changed my home address here, there’s a mailbox and everything now, and I’m an official resident. Hopefully I’ll makes destroying all this a bit more difficult for those Andra bastards!» says Sven Lindstrom, the first official squatter of the Lejuc forest. For obvious reasons he’s entitled to have his say in this call-out.

«To make
things even more difficult for Andra, I’ve decided to have my birthday party right here, at this forest occupation. My birthdays on 13.12. and of course it will be a theme party. And as it looks like I need to prepare for party crashers in blue, I think I will start celebrating early. Come in and bring your own beer and plenty of friends!»

On the 1st of August, the nuclear monster Andra was ruled by the court to cease the clear cuts and fencing off the forest with the leftovers of the Berlin wall without legal permits. Today, 24th of November, the environmental authority ruled that Andra is freed from having to carry out an environmental impact study concerning its plans, but can instead simply apply for that final clearing cut permit. The alarming part is that this permit will, besides the clear cuts, also cover the whole of the works in preparation for CIGEO, the gigantic underground repository for highly radioactive nuke wasteSo when they come in the next time with their cops and bulldozers: they’re coming to destroy. Big time.

There will be yet one more court hearing about the forest matter on 15th of December. If they play things by the book, they will wait until 15th of December, maybe even January beyond. If they decide to do what they want, they can come evicting on any morning from this moment on. So yes: this is an emergency call out. To join, prepare and face it – and beyond.

essaiTo support Sven, some people offer the accommodation, food and building materials for the guest to come and walk in the woods. If you cannot come, take a stand of solidarity elsewhere or drop Sven a postcard at: Sven Lindstrom, Le Haut Chemin, 55290 Mandres-En-Barrois, France.

An open letter to Commandant Dubois

It appears that Commandant Dubois, the chief of the local Gendarmerie and Gendarmerie mobile wishes to return to the woods of Lejuc. Mr. Dubois is the very chief of the operations carried out in and around the forest this year, from the 7th of July eviction to other moments of questionable behaviour. It appear that Mr. Dubois has communicated his wish to, for example, attend one of our open Sunday walks. This wish was communicated onwards to the occupants of the forest, who yet communicated the matter onwards.

Naturally, we didn’t like Mr. Dubois’s idea very much. Thus, different people with different relations, opinions and experiences concerning the Lejuc woods felt that an open letter in hopes of answers to clear the confusement and worries this communication woke would be the best way to communicate something back to Mr. Dubois.

An open letter to Commandant Dubois

We realise this would not be an easy visit, so we decided to put some thought onto the matter you have presented.

We have been thinking about a place to discuss the modalities of your visit, and as this is all about trust building and as you have already visited this forest, we propose that we meet in your living room or another place in your home wich you deem suitable.

There are some further concerns that you and your friends have shown threatening attitudes and physical harassment to people in this very forest.

We are sure that you understand that, like most people, it is hard for us to be welcoming under these circumstances.

In addition, we are certain that you do not want to give the impression that this could be seen as a provocation by the general public, as we are talking about an agent of the police force visiting a place of struggle, especially since the events of October 2014 in Sivens.

We are very much looking forward to your invitation, as we are keen on discussing all these points with you, and of coming to an agreement.

New call from the forest of Mandres

New call from the forest of Mandres

Autumn has arrived – and as nights grow longer, we keep on keeping Andra out and off from destroying these woodlands. After nearly 5 months of demonstrations, occupations, forest walks, evictions, reoccupations, fights, legal actions, leaflet distributions, (wall) sabotages and new constructions from treehouses to watch towers rising in the forest – we continue to settle in. Our forest family is small, but active and growing, welcoming new residents and visitors to walk the woods with us.

Since the 1st of August, Andra was ruled by the court of Bar-le-Duc to cease the clear cuts and fencing off the forest with the leftovers of the late Berlin wall it had started without legal permissions. The company was ruled into the process of either getting the authorization for its works or, in the best scenario, be ruled to recultivate the destruction it had caused.

To encourage the court system for once to do the right thing and the forest to keep on standing strong, 500 of us seized the moment on 14th August and took down the entire 1,2km long concrete wall. After this, the new forest occupation started, and built itself up calmly, without call-outs, in-a-matter-of-factly: when you know what’s the right thing to do, it’s easy to get going.

Unfortunately, Andra is still searching ways to get back in. The company appealed the 1st August court decision, and the matter was scheduled to go to court on 3rd of November. Unsurprisingly enough, the session was postponed, giving Andra yet more time to find legal loopholes for its needs. The procedure to authorize the clear cuts is advancing. Since October, the bailiff’s and security guards have tried to have their forest walks with varying success and police controls taken place in nearby villages. Some artistic comrades were given a 2 month suspended prison sentence for a graffiti on a ruined Andra building, another person got a ban from the area of Meuse for two years and free auditions are piling up for the fall of the Andra wall. A new prefect took the office in Meuse and CIGEO (the planned disposal facility for highly radioactive nuke waste) has a brand new director. Andra has also recruited a new public law expert to avoid its past mistakes.

To put it short: they are reorganizing, and threat of a forest eviction and resumption of the drilling works are growing on an alarming rate. And since the forest cannot stand up and fight for itself: it’s up to us to stand up for it.

As the history of anti-nuclear struggles shows, in the end the bad guys will get the permits to favour them. This is how the system is built: but luckily we don’t have to humbly accept it. With this new call we’re not only giving an update to old friends and supporters. First and foremost, we’re inviting all of you to come or take a stand of solidarity elsewhere. From Calais to Notre-Dame-des-Landes active people are not giving in for repression, but finding hope from action. We respect the diversity of tactics: whether your thing is to summon up the clown army, get creative with your friends or arrange a Sunday fiesta of roasted chestnuts for local supporters, you’re welcomed here.

Agricultural Barricades Against Nuclear Dump and ”Reclaim The Fields” Meeting, from 11th to 13th of November

Agricultural Barricades Against Nuclear Dump and ”Reclaim The Fields” Meeting, from 11th to 13th of November

Since the end of the summer in Bure, the forest of Mandres-en-Barrois is freed from ANDRA. The sections of the wall are lying on the ground, the cops have withdrawn and cabins are rebuilt in the trees. The undertakers of nuclear power have suffered a memorable defeat.

But the ANDRA empire does not stop at the edge of the forest. In ten years, the agency has monopolized more than 3000 hectars of land, including 1000 hectares of farming land, harassing many farmers, increasing the price of land and complicating farm facilities.

In these fields, the work began more than a year ago. Because of the first drillings and excavations, more than 300 hectares have been removed from agricultural use, deprived of their food value. After having been covered in trenches, they are now left uncultivated, before giving way to a huge area of waste conditioning on the surface.

From inhabitated trees to occupied fields!

To strengthen the blocking of the works, we call to continue the occupation of farmland. Last November we planted one hectare of cereals right underneath the windows of the lab. In April, we had planted 500 m2 of potatoes in place of a future railway. With the 300 kilos that we have collected, we will continue to mash ANDRA, tear down walls and build cabins: our squatted crops are the breeding ground of a widespread resistance.

Since the beginning of autumn, we have extended this patch of potatoes to take over 3 hectares of ANDRA’s land. Ancient wheat varieties have been settled in, rye and wheat bread have been sown, and soon a bakery will be built, to laugh (loaf) in the face of nucleocrats!

On Sunday 13th of November we invite everyone to take care of this field and to build barricades and hedges all around. As from 10:30, we’ll see you at the old train station of Lumeville to work all together: mulching, massive planting of fruit tree barricades and of hedges, ditching, making Andra-scarecrows, winter sowing, making mounds of soil. Let’s feed the resistance, block their works and affirm desirable futures instead of their nuclear desert! Please bring some drinks and snacks, but also shovels, pitchforks, pickaxes, as many shrubs and other plants as possible…and most of all, bring yourself!

As from Friday 11th afternoon, The House of Resistance in Bure will host the francophone meetings of the network of farmers and anticapitalist collectives “Reclaim the Fields” to take time for reflection and to root rebellions in the “Great East”, in France and elsewhere. Everybody is invited to take part!

From the liberated forest of Mandes-en-Barrois to the rebellious fields: we shall never be atomized! ANDRA, get lost! Seeds, b(l)ockades, and wild sowing!
