An open letter to Commandant Dubois

It appears that Commandant Dubois, the chief of the local Gendarmerie and Gendarmerie mobile wishes to return to the woods of Lejuc. Mr. Dubois is the very chief of the operations carried out in and around the forest this year, from the 7th of July eviction to other moments of questionable behaviour. It appear that Mr. Dubois has communicated his wish to, for example, attend one of our open Sunday walks. This wish was communicated onwards to the occupants of the forest, who yet communicated the matter onwards.

Naturally, we didn’t like Mr. Dubois’s idea very much. Thus, different people with different relations, opinions and experiences concerning the Lejuc woods felt that an open letter in hopes of answers to clear the confusement and worries this communication woke would be the best way to communicate something back to Mr. Dubois.

An open letter to Commandant Dubois

We realise this would not be an easy visit, so we decided to put some thought onto the matter you have presented.

We have been thinking about a place to discuss the modalities of your visit, and as this is all about trust building and as you have already visited this forest, we propose that we meet in your living room or another place in your home wich you deem suitable.

There are some further concerns that you and your friends have shown threatening attitudes and physical harassment to people in this very forest.

We are sure that you understand that, like most people, it is hard for us to be welcoming under these circumstances.

In addition, we are certain that you do not want to give the impression that this could be seen as a provocation by the general public, as we are talking about an agent of the police force visiting a place of struggle, especially since the events of October 2014 in Sivens.

We are very much looking forward to your invitation, as we are keen on discussing all these points with you, and of coming to an agreement.

Agricultural Barricades Against Nuclear Dump and ”Reclaim The Fields” Meeting, from 11th to 13th of November

Agricultural Barricades Against Nuclear Dump and ”Reclaim The Fields” Meeting, from 11th to 13th of November

Since the end of the summer in Bure, the forest of Mandres-en-Barrois is freed from ANDRA. The sections of the wall are lying on the ground, the cops have withdrawn and cabins are rebuilt in the trees. The undertakers of nuclear power have suffered a memorable defeat.

But the ANDRA empire does not stop at the edge of the forest. In ten years, the agency has monopolized more than 3000 hectars of land, including 1000 hectares of farming land, harassing many farmers, increasing the price of land and complicating farm facilities.

In these fields, the work began more than a year ago. Because of the first drillings and excavations, more than 300 hectares have been removed from agricultural use, deprived of their food value. After having been covered in trenches, they are now left uncultivated, before giving way to a huge area of waste conditioning on the surface.

From inhabitated trees to occupied fields!

To strengthen the blocking of the works, we call to continue the occupation of farmland. Last November we planted one hectare of cereals right underneath the windows of the lab. In April, we had planted 500 m2 of potatoes in place of a future railway. With the 300 kilos that we have collected, we will continue to mash ANDRA, tear down walls and build cabins: our squatted crops are the breeding ground of a widespread resistance.

Since the beginning of autumn, we have extended this patch of potatoes to take over 3 hectares of ANDRA’s land. Ancient wheat varieties have been settled in, rye and wheat bread have been sown, and soon a bakery will be built, to laugh (loaf) in the face of nucleocrats!

On Sunday 13th of November we invite everyone to take care of this field and to build barricades and hedges all around. As from 10:30, we’ll see you at the old train station of Lumeville to work all together: mulching, massive planting of fruit tree barricades and of hedges, ditching, making Andra-scarecrows, winter sowing, making mounds of soil. Let’s feed the resistance, block their works and affirm desirable futures instead of their nuclear desert! Please bring some drinks and snacks, but also shovels, pitchforks, pickaxes, as many shrubs and other plants as possible…and most of all, bring yourself!

As from Friday 11th afternoon, The House of Resistance in Bure will host the francophone meetings of the network of farmers and anticapitalist collectives “Reclaim the Fields” to take time for reflection and to root rebellions in the “Great East”, in France and elsewhere. Everybody is invited to take part!

From the liberated forest of Mandes-en-Barrois to the rebellious fields: we shall never be atomized! ANDRA, get lost! Seeds, b(l)ockades, and wild sowing!

See you SOON!

From the 24th of October, construction works will start in the liberated Lejuc forest of Mandres-en-Barrois

Here, Bure’s owls resist Cigéo and defend the Lejuc forest of Mandres-en-Barrois against a megalomaniac project of nuclear dump.

There, the newts resist an airport and occupy the grove of the ZAD (Zone to Defend) of Notre-Dame-des-Landes, against another useless and imposed mega project.

Elsewhere, the marmots of Haute-Durance gnaw some high voltage pylons (1).

On the 14th of August 2016, the collective destruction of ANDRA’s “wall of shame” was the culmination of a mad summer of emergency dedicated to the defense of the Lejuc forest, threatened with destruction by the preliminary work of the Cigéo project. Since then, the forest of Mandres is freed from the yoke of nucleocrats. The work of clearing the forest, sentenced by the high court of Bar-le-Duc on August 1st, is suspended. A thousand steles of concrete are lying on the ground, and the militarization of the territory has diminished. On the ruins of the new world, cabins were rebuilt again discreetly in majestic beeches and oaks.

But in recent weeks ANDRA began a counter-attack. An offensive communication campaign was started, and open doors of the laboratory. The police has made targeted controls, while ANDRA´s security guards are back prowling the roads, with sticks in their hands. In the morning of October 11th, as we are writing this call, the bailiff came with ANDRA´s guards and filmed some existing constructions in the forest. On October 20th there will be the trial concerning the appeal ANDRA has made against the decision from August 1st to suspend their work: at best, they would get more time to get authorizations for their work in the forest, in the worst case the previous judgment could get canceled and then everything could proceed very fast. While eviction threats hang over the ZAD of Notre-Dame-des-Landes, Bure also faces a threat of potentially imminent destruction of huts and the forest, and the restart of the work: clearing, excavations, “geotechnical surveys” perimeter, concrete wall… The destructive devices could resume their deadly ballet, even during winter.

We must be ready: the machines are ready to dig, let´s block them!

On the ground, behind the barricades! In the air perched in the trees, let’s protect the Lejuc forest!

While the threatened ZAD calls “the friends of trees” (2), we support them and create echo: Here too, in Bure, we want to continue to root the resistance, and we launch an call to weave together the branches of trees, building nests, cabins for the struggle and sharing. Whether or not you have some experience or knowledge in construction or light and ephemeral habitats in climbing techniques, blocking and other ways of jamming destructive machines, come and learn or share your knowledge of how to protect forests, groves and threatened pieces of live.

Let’s create arches and travel from tree to tree, from resistance to resistance:

Join us in Meuse from the 24th of October for a new building season in the forest (and more if we hit it off!).

All experiences and wills are welcome in the months to come, and will be critical for the fight against Cigéo and its world!

Let’s spread this call massively from network to network, and together signify ANDRA that its return in the Lejuc forest will not be easy and we will be numerous waiting for them!

Logistical questions:
!Important! List of our material needs: click here. We have little means of transport, so you can drop us the material directly, we will treasure
it! If you can’t bring it, let us know a few days before so that we can organize ourselves. Thank you.

Accommodation: It is important to plan your autonomy as much as possible, knowing that those two places can accommodate: The House of Resistance in Bure and another battleground close to Luméville-en-Ornois. These places have their own limitations, so it is best to contact us before your arrival. It is also possible to immediately move into the forest and even settle in tents!

Food: Again, the inhabitants of the forest are trying to be as independent as possible, even if our various places of life are related and interdependent for food matters. If you bring food (preferably vegan!), it won’t be too much.
